About Study Course
Objective
To provide dental hygiene students with theoretical knowledge and develop skills in the maintenance, prevention and early treatment of children's dental health, promoting an understanding of child development, the characteristics of the dentition in childhood, common childhood oral diseases and their prevention. The course will develop the ability to communicate effectively with children and their parents, and to work collaboratively with other health professionals, ensuring a holistic approach to children's dental health.
Prerequisites
Preliminary knowledge of dental development, Anatomy, Histology, Pre-clinical studies, Preventive Dentistry, and Dental Public Health.
Learning outcomes
As a result of learning the study course, the student acquires knowledge about the growth and development of the child, the formation of milk and permanent teeth, the formation of the bite. Diseases of the oral cavity, their diagnosis, prevention and treatment. Understanding the prevalence and intensity of caries in children. Principles of emergency care for dental injuries.
As a result of studying the study course, students:
• will know how to establish contact with the child and the child's parents;
• will be able to perform an age-appropriate examination and preventive measures planning, diet analysis;
• collect anamnesis, determine caries risk. Carry out appropriate preventive manipulations and motivate patients;
• will diagnose caries in milk and permanent teeth;
• will be able to diagnose and treat gingivitis;
• diagnose mineralization disorders and plan preventive measures;
• the ability to deal with dental injuries;
• will be able to provide appropriate treatment for children with special needs - autism, cerebral palsy.
To identify risks groups according to patient’s general health conditions.
To identify risks groups according to patient’s skills in oral hygiene, saliva testing, intensity of caries, periodontal and oral mucosa conditions and occlusion.
Develop a plan for oral health education, prevention and clinical treatment, its accurate and positive achievement individually for each child and teenager.
Basic principles of pedagogy, components of study process, types of information selection and transfer. Motivation in the educational process and teaching techniques.
Possibilities of changing attitudes and behavior within the education and process.
