Abdominal Pathologies (PAK_042)
About Study Course
Objective
To provide future public health specialists with basic knowledge and understanding of the nature of abdominal organ diseases (including gastrointestinal and gynaecological organ pathologies) in order to form a solid foundation for further studies, epidemiological analysis and scientific research in public health.
Prerequisites
Human anatomy. Prerequisites for human physiology and histology or cell biology are desirable.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the study course, the student will know and will be able to explain in a reasoned manner the nature, causes and risk factors of various abdominal diseases and general pathological processes, pathogenesis and its presentation in clinical processes, laboratory and imaging examinations, possible complications and consequences and outcomes. Pathological processes to be studied include issues of pathogenesis of gastrointestinal, liver and biliary tract, pancreas, gynaecological and reproductive diseases as a basis for further clinical studies, understanding of the formation of clinical symptoms and laboratory changes and their detection.
Students will be able to reasonably evaluate pathogenesis of the most common abdominal diseases, link it to clinical manifestations of diseases and basics of diagnostics, as well as to epidemiological analysis and public health assessment. The student will also be able to take practical action to organise tissue and/or laboratory examinations required in the practice of a general practitioner or specialist, to interpret and critically analyse their results in relation to the overall picture of the disease.
The acquired competence covers the pathogenesis of diseases of various organs and their systems, raises awareness of pathological processes occurring in the body as the basis for clinical manifestations and serves as a basis for further clinical studies to acquire and understand clinical competences, as well as for scientific research in the field of public health.
