For the first time this year the Latvian Association of Periodontology will join the Gum Health Day initiative by the European Federation of Periodontology. This day will take place on 12 May and marks the sixth year it is held in Europe. Every year new countries all over the world join this initiative.

As per the official slogan of the campaign – Healthy gums, beautiful smile – the focus this year is on the importance of gum health.

The goal of the Gum Health Days 2019 is to raise public awareness of the impact of periodontal health on quality of life, aesthetics, self-esteem and overall health. 

During the campaign between 7 and 12 May dentists throughout Latvia will be invited to voluntarily carry out free periodontal screenings in their practices according to the recommendations of the Latvian Association of Periodontology.

On 11 May at 10:00-16:00 free periodontal screenings will be available for adults and 7-17 year olds on the premises of the Institute of Stomatology. The screenings are part of the initiative to help inform the public about the importance of gum health, and scientifically based information dispelling various myths will also be provided. There will also be a public lecture cycle in the auditorium on a variety of topics concerning on gum health.
