About Study Course
Objective
Learn different approaches to ethical problem identitfication and solving in research, form a reasoned opinion and attitudes in key ethical issues of research.
Prerequisites
No prior knowledge is required to take the course.
Learning outcomes
As a result of completing the study course, students will acquire extensive knowledge in various areas related to research ethics. They will know the basic requirements of the Declaration of Helsinki, will be able to navigate freely in the documents regulating research, will define informed consent, will interpret the ethical arguments and problems used in the context of research with humans and animals. Students will understand the general principles and practices of research ethics committees in Latvia. Students will be aware of the responsibility of a scientist in promoting the credibility of science in society.
Students will be able to evaluate ethical issues in the process of developing a research design and publishing research results, analyze specific cases in research, and discuss and propose innovative solutions to ethical problems.
Cognitive – by forming a reasoned opinion. Analytical – by being able to adequately understand and analyze other person's point of view. Interactive – by participating in an active discussion, improving one's communication and presentation skills.
