Technical requirements 

Formatting of Manuscripts

  • Manuscripts must be submitted in Latvian or English. Preferred volume of text (including footnote references/notes) - from 30 000 up to 60 000 characters, including spaces.
  • A manuscript must include:
    • A short annotation up to 14 characters, including spaces
    • Keywords, not more than six
    • Summary up to 4000 characters (summary in English for a manuscript in Latvian; summary in Latvian for a manuscript in English)
  • Data of author/authors (name, surname, represented institution; contact address; e-mail address; phone number) must be given separately on the first page
  • Body, footnote references and notes - Times New Roman, 12pt.
  • Double spacing between lines (both in the text and footnote references/notes)
  • Chapters must be separated with sub-titles, bold and centred
  • Do not use ALL CAPS
  • Paragraphs must be separated with an indent, you should not leave an empty line between paragraphs
  • Quotations must be separated with “quotation marks”. If a citation is longer than three lines, it must be written in a new paragraph
  • Use superscript after punctuation to number references and footnotes. Use the option to insert footnotes automatically (insert footnote). Each reference must be separated, do not merge references
  • Only Latin alphabet is to be used. Text in Cyrillic must be transliterated: Transliteration.pdf

Formatting of Reviews and Report

Book and media reviews, as well as reviews of events in academic and museum life, are chosen by the editor in consultation with Editorial Board. The journal does not publish previously uncoordinated reviews and reports.
  • Reviews and reports must be submitted in Latvian or English
  • Preferred volume of text (including footnote references/remarks) must not exceed 8000 characters (reviews) and 15 000 characters (reports), including spaces
  • Author’s name, surname, represented institution, address, e-mail address, phone must be given
  • Body, footnote references and notes - Times New Roman, 12pt
  • Double spacing between lines (both in the text and footnote references/notes)
  • Paragraphs must be separated with an indent, do not leave an empty line between the paragraphs
  • Quotations must be separated with “quotation marks”. If it is longer than three lines, it must be separated in a new paragraph
  • Use the superscript after punctuation to number references and footnotes. Use the option to insert footnotes automatically (insert footnote). Each reference is to be separated, do not merge references

Illustrative Material

Illustrative material (up to five pictures for articles and reports, one picture - for reviews) must be submitted in separate files in .jpg, .eps or .tiff format (300 dpi photos or halftone images; 1200 dpi line art). Submitting an article the author declares that third party copyrights are not infringed by publishing the illustrative material.

Formatting of References

Footnotes are used. Manuscript should not include a separate bibliography or list of references. Reference building system is based on Chicago Manual of Style. In case if reference examples of the particular sources or literature are not found here, please use the latest Chicago Manual of Style published by University of Chicago Press.

Repeated references


When repeatedly referring to a source cited, you must not write the full reference. Referring to a source quoted in the preceding reference, use "Ibid" and indicate the page:

Research articles are subject to double blind peer-review. Each article in each edition has two or more reviewers.

Copyrights and licences

Starting form X (XXIX) number the journal AMHR has been licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC 4.0) that allows the readers to read, copy, distribute and create derivative works for non-commercial purposes, including a reference to the author of the original work.
The author grants AMHR rights to publish their article in an electronic and printed form and identify AMHR as the original publisher. The author also allows third parties to use their article, distribute, reproduce and create derivative works in non-commercial purposes, including a reference to the author of the original work. Prior to publication, the author is asked to sign a license agreement.

Plagiarism policy

Only original research is published. Before submitting manuscripts to double- blind peer review, their originality is verified using Turnitin plagiarism control program.

How to submit a manuscript

Manuscripts, formatted in accordance with technical requirements, must be submitted in Word Doc format by email to mviatrsu[pnkts]lv.
Illustrative materials are to be submitted in separate files in .jpg, .eps or.tiff format by e-mail to mviatrsu[pnkts]lv.
