16:00–17:30 | Good practices in scholarly publishing This training is addressed to everyone interested in the intricacies of scholarly publishing. During this training the attendees will learn about the importance of academic publishing and maintaining its high quality through proper peer-review. Additionally, information on Open Access and how to recognize good journals will be provided, along with information on the importance of publishing data. The training will be concluded by an overview of ethics in publishing, which ought to be respected by all authors, editors and reviewers. The training is addressed primarily to young researchers, although senior academics are also welcome to attend. |

17:45–19:00 | Scopus: a tool for scholarly output evaluation Scopus is the largest abstract and citation database containing information on peer-reviewed literature published by more than 5,000 international publishers. Its content provides a comprehensive picture of the global research landscape and as such, it may serve as a source of information for evaluation of scholarly output. In this tailor-made training, attendees will learn how to use the available parameters and tools within Scopus to assess the scholarly output. Moreover, attendees will learn how to submit corrections to their profiles, to ensure their data is current. The training includes several on-line workflow examples and the participants are welcome to take active part. |
About the speaker
Katarzyna Gaca-Zając, PhD Eng. – a graduate of University of Strathclyde, with almost a decade of experience in research and teaching at an academic level in Europe; a specialist in polymer chemistry and studies of chemical reactions’ kinetics. Currently a Customer Consultant for Central-Eastern Europe in Elsevier. A knowledgeable expert on scientific databases and Elsevier solutions for researchers and information specialists, who is passionate about ethics in scientific publishing, as well as about widely understood bibliometrics.
