Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU), Department of Orthopaedics Visiting Professor Alexander Lerner, MD PhD, from Azrieli Faculty of Medicine, Bar-Ilan University and Orthopaedic Department of Ziv Medical Center (Israel) will give the following lectures on 14 February 2024 at 10.00 – 12.00 on Zoom:
- Damage control orthopaedics and functional limb salvage in modern war trauma.

About the lecturer
Alexander Lerner is a professor of orthopaedics at the Azrieli Faculty of Medicine, Bar-Ilan University and Ziv Medical Center. He is one of the world's most prominent orthopaedic surgeons with many years of experience in the treatment of severe limb injuries and reconstructive surgery, including those caused by armed conflicts.
He is a member of the AO Foundation (Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Osteosynthesefragen), an international working group for bone fusion issues, and is the author and co-author of numerous international publications and five books. Between 2013 and 2017, the Orthopaedic Clinic led by Professor Lerner treated several hundred severely injured patients who were transported from the Syrian border area to the Zif Medical Centre.
The RSU Department of Orthopaedics has a long-standing cooperation with Prof. Lerner. He has conducted orthopaedics course at the Department of Orthopaedics of the Zif Medical Centre of Bar-Ilan University for RSU students, as well as trained medical residents within the Erasmus+ programme.
