Medical Biochemistry (CFUBK_085)
About Study Course
Objective
1. To promote the acquisition of knowledge about the human body's chemical structure.
2. Learn the metabolism, the opportunities of regulation and changes in different situations.
3. Learn the possible routes of drugs, their inactivation processes.
Prerequisites
General and organic chemistry, biology in high school and FF II course program level.
Learning outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course the student will be able to:
1. Substantiate according biochemical processes in the normal course and anticipate possible changes to various deviations.
2. Analyse and substantiate medication effects on metabolic process, as well as predict the consequences on the body.
3. Analyse biochemically collected data during drug therapy, to adequately process them and to make consequential and reasoned conclusions.
Upon completion of the study course the students will be able to:
1. Tell about the human body's molecules structure and importance.
2. Describe the enzyme activity.
3. Define the main principles of bioenergetics and metabolism, their regulation capabilities.
4. Analyse and evaluate carbohydrates, lipids and amino acid metabolic processes and its hormonal regulation.
5. Justify medication effects on metabolism in human body.
Will be able to predict and analyse the medication effects on metabolic processes, and to make consequential and reasoned conclusions by using data collected from drug therapy.
