Objective

To provide students with knowledge in clinical areas – pathophysiology of diseases, clinical manifestations of rheumatological diseases, evaluation of examinations, basic methods of treatment and pharmacotherapy options for rheumatological diseases.
The study module comprises an integrated training cycle in which the student is gradually introduced to the pathological physiology of a group of diseases, clinical pharmacology, clinical manifestations, examination possibilities, interpretation of examination data, principles of treatment and pharmacotherapy possibilities.

Prerequisites

Human anatomy, physiology and pathology, medical biochemistry, pharmacology.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

As a result of successfully completing the course, the student will have knowledge of the following:
• aetiology, pathogenesis of rheumatological diseases;
• the most common clinical manifestations and complications of rheumatological diseases;
• evaluation of the results of diagnostic examinations for rheumatological diseases;
• basic treatments for rheumatological diseases;
• pharmacotherapy options for rheumatological diseases.

Skills

The student will be able:
• to assess and interpret the results of diagnostic examinations for rheumatological diseases;
• to assess the pharmacotherapy of rheumatological diseases.

Competence

The student will be able:
• in collaboration with the medical practitioners, to determine a pharmacotherapy plan for the individual rheumatology patient;
• to assess the advantages and disadvantages of pharmacotherapy methods in relation to the patient’s examination data;
• to monitor the progress of pharmacotherapy, predict side effect and plan the prevention thereof, and provide the necessary information to other medical specialists.
