Neurology (NUNK_020)
About Study Course
Objective
To facilitate the acquisition of knowledge about the pathogenesis of the main diseases of the nervous system, clinical manifestations thereof, the principles of treatment and the objectives of rehabilitation in the care thereof.
Prerequisites
Preliminary theoretical knowledge in anatomy and physiology of the nervous system.
Learning outcomes
As a result of completing the study course, the student is able to do the following:
● describe and assess a patient with a neurological condition based on anamnesis and symptoms, with emphasis on language, speech, swallowing and communication disorders and other accompanying neurological symptoms;
● describe the aetiology, pathogenesis and clinical picture of the most common neurological disorders that result in the development of audiology and speech disorders;
● describe the different types of language and speech disorders in patients with neurological conditions;
● set and substantiate rehabilitation objectives for neurological patients with communication, speech, language and swallowing disorders.
As a result of completing the study course, the student will be able:
● to assess the patient’s neurological condition;
● to recognise the main syndromes of neurological damage;
● to assess language and speech disorders;
● to determine the degree of swallowing disorders using tests that can be used in practice;
● to develop the objectives and key tasks for audiology and speech therapy rehabilitation.
As a result of successfully completing the study course, the student is able:
● to recognise and differentiate between audiology and speech symptoms of the most common neurological diseases – speech, language, swallowing and communication disorders, as well as other accompanying neurological symptoms; logically explain the neurological diagnosis;
● to develop and substantiate audiology and speech therapy solutions to achieve rehabilitation objectives, adapted to the specific neurological clinical situation.
