Objective

1. provide studies in pathology, including the morphological and functional manifestations of diseases, their pathogenesis. This aspect of the programme should create theoretical foundations for further study of medical study courses, creating a comprehensively educated healthcare specialist according to the specifics and purpose of the study programme. The pathology programme should provide the student with an integrated understanding of the morphological and functional components of disease pathogenesis;
2. provide a practical overview of pathology as a diagnostic branch of medicine at a level appropriate to the specifics of the study programme.

Prerequisites

In biology, human anatomy, histology, genetics, physiology, biochemistry.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

As a result of learning the study course, the student will know and be able to explain in a reasoned manner the nature, causes and risk factors of various diseases and general pathological processes, pathogenesis and its reflection in clinical processes, laboratory and imaging examinations, possible complications and consequences, outcomes, to the extent permitted by the scope of the study course.

Skills

The student will be able to reasonably evaluate the pathogenesis of the most common diseases, relate it to the clinical manifestations of the diseases and the basics of diagnosis, as well as take practical steps to organise the necessary tissue or laboratory examinations, interpret and critically analyse their results in relation to the overall picture of the disease.

Competence

The acquired competences cover the pathogenesis of diseases of various organs and their systems and serve as a basis for further clinical studies to acquire clinical competences and conduct scientific research. By learning the study course PAK_014, students also acquire and develop competences in the selection and critical analysis of professional information, contributing to the development of critical and logical thinking.
