About Study Course
Objective
To use the orthotics in rehabilitation team work.
To teach students to chose the appropriate technical aid – orthesis for an individual patient and to be able to make the appropriate orthesis, train patients to use orthesis, follow the treatment process with the orthosis use and, if necessary, to correct it, to work in a single or in rehabilitation team, individually and industrially manufacture orthesis for the patients with a variety of disabilities.
Prerequisites
Background knowledge of anatomy, biomechanics and physiology and orthotics with soft and rigid braces.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, students will have acquired in-depth knowledge of the complete production process of orthoses, the way of the examination required to assess the patient's needs for orthoses, what is the characteristics of gait deviation in patients with the need of bracing for the improvement of gait, will know in details what orthoses are available for neurological orthopedic and related diseases, will know what their indications are and when they should be applied. The background knowledge of orthotics with soft and rigid orthoses will be used in the clinical praxis giving deeper knowledge of the application of orthotics.
After the completion of the course, the student will have acquired sufficient theoretical and practical knowledge of orthotics to be able to perform the examination of a patient to chose the appropriate orthosis on the basis of the existing knowledge, to explain the stages of product manufacturing, to be able to make a part of manufacturing or complete orthoses manufacturing, to make the product fitting and explain the use of the product.
• Ability to use the acquired knowledge for the choice of rigid orthosis types and application aspects;
• is able to formulate the goal for the aplication of orthotics;
• able to select alternative solutions for orthosis;
• interpret the expected results of the orthotics application;
• analyze the performance of the chosen product;
• argue the benefits of selected product;
• logically formulate and explain the goals and objectives of the aplication of orthotics;
• evaluate the results of orthotics.
