About Study Course
Objective
To explain the place of human homoeostasis in the surrounding environment and its relations with other biological objects.
Prerequisites
Knowledge of biology, chemistry, computer science, and English (level B2) acquired within the framework of general secondary education. The result of the centralized examination in biology and English.
Learning outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course students will be able to carry out the following activities: explain the conditions for collecting, drying, and storing medicinal plants; justify the use of medicinal plants for the prevention of the organism; improve the functioning of the digestive tract; treatment and prevention of cold diseases; know the basic principles for everyday tea use; use Latin names of medicinal plants during lectures and practical classes.
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to carry out the following activities: recognize the most popular medicinal herbs in Latvia; prove the existence of biogenic substances in medicinal plants and explain the results of experiments on the chemical and physical properties of biogenic substances and their basic structure; put forward conclusions based on the obtained results, make tea and infusion and pharmaceutical forms, and use the databases of medicinal register and food supplements.
Upon successful completion of the course students will be able to analyse situations, logically formulate their opinion about therapeutic effect of medicinal herbs and choice of medicinal herbs depending on the goal, and anticipate side effects.
