About Study Course

ECTS:3
Course supervisor:Dace Rezevska
Study type:Full time
Course level:Master's
Target audience:Life Science
Language:Latvian
Study course description Full description, Full time
Branch of science:Biological sciences; Environmental biotechnology; Medical biotechnology; Microbiology

Objective

To gain knowledge of distribution and spread of bacteria, fungi and viruses, their classification principles, morphology, pathogenic properties, interaction with host.

Prerequisites

Biology, anatomy, histology, physiology.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

1.To characterize microorganisms, to describe their distribution in the environment, to explain their pathogenicity and their role in the aetiology of infectious diseases and their interaction processes with the host.

Skills

1.Will be able to investigate the clinical material containing bacteria, isolate and identify and isolate a pure culture of microorganisms, diagnose it, will be able to define the sensitivity of the isolated pure culture to antibiotic substances in order to be able to evaluate the sensitivity of the identified microorganism to antibiotic substances. You will acquire skills in the assessment of the pathogenesis of infectious diseases.

Competence

1.Combining theoretical knowledge and practical skills, the students will be able to apply these skills in unitary integrative understanding of the importance of bacterial and viral pathogenicity factors in the aetiology of diseases, and they will be able to apply them to the mechanisms of pathogenesis and interactions with the host.
