About Study Course
Objective
To promote lawyers’ understanding of the development and system of the European Union labour law, as well as the ability to orient themselves in issues related to the practical application of international labour law, to provide opportunities for enriching their theoretical knowledge. The course covers basic knowledge of law, the European Union law and labour law.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of labour law of the Republic of Latvia.
Learning outcomes
As a result of completing the course, students gain knowledge and understanding of the following:
• theoretical frameworks in the field of EU labour law;
• EU labour law system, principles and sources of law;
• basics of EU labour law and human rights;
• work organisation issues in the EU – labour contracts, nature of collective labour agreement, working and rest time, vacations, social guarantees, labour protection, dispute resolution;
• legal framework for socially vulnerable labour law subjects (women, young people, people with disabilities, etc.).
As a result of completing the course, students are able to do the following:
• to plan and organise their work;
• to evaluate legal texts translated from other languages and use them for analytical work;
• to find the applicable law;
• to argue and outline legal conclusions;
• to perform work tasks independently.
As a result of completing the course, students are able to do the following:
• to formulate and analytically describe information, highlight problems in EU labour law;
• to discuss issues related to the EU labour law;
• to present the results of their research;
• to collaborate with colleagues.
