About Study Course
Objective
Use of the knowledge and skills acquired during theoretical courses and practical classes in practical work in the placement institution’s system.
Prerequisites
Knowledge of social work and the social security system in Latvia; knowledge of the levels of social work practice; knowledge of the organisation of social work; knowledge of clients from different target groups; knowledge of social work methods and management of a social case.
Learning outcomes
As a result of mastering the study course students:
• obtain in-depth knowledge of social work in the specific placement institution and functions of social work professionals with different target groups of clients/patients, etc.;
• gain understanding of the establishment of cooperation with other institutions.
Upon completion of the course, students:
• develop observation and evaluation skills;
• develop communication skills;
• demonstrate awareness of professional ethics and values;
• acquire skills in social work on a case;
• acquire skills: to identify the problem, to create a conversation, to set an intervention goal, to plan, etc.;
• use psychosocial work methods;
• resolve ethical dilemmas;
• develop teamwork skills.
