About Study Course
Objective
To acquire Latvian at the basic conversational level (A1) in order to be able to use it in daily communication and for academic purposes.
To give an overall picture and promote acquiring knowledge about searching possibilities of medical information, library resources, services, library rules and regulations.
Prerequisites
Without preliminary knowledge of Latvian.
Learning outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, students will:
• know the lexical minimum of conversational topics;
• know the basic language rules;
• know the principles of question formation, including question words;
• know the vocabulary related to the human body and internal organs and most common diseases;
• understand Library's structure and offered services;
• have acquired knowledge that will allow them to find the required information in the electronic catalogue, medical and multidisciplinary e-resources.
Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to:
• give information about oneself, family, studies, daily routine orally and in writing;
• ask simple questions and to answer them;
• understand Library's structure and offered services;
• work independently in Library information centre and branch libraries by using the resources available there;
• look for information sources in the electronic catalogue and databases;
• use search tools and wildcards.
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to use Latvian at basic conversational level in daily communication and in communication with patients.
Using acquired theoretical and practical knowledge students will be able to make quality search for information, independently analyse information search options and situations, as well as create appropriate search strategy.
