About Study Course
Objective
To provide knowledge of specific pharmacotherapy in accordance with the pathology of the organ systems studied during the study course. To gain knowledge of the effect of therapeutic drugs on disease mechanisms and pathogenesis.
The aim is to achieve that students are able to apply their knowledge of the mechanisms of action of drug substances and to integrate pharmacotherapeutic strategies in the treatment of a given case, to anticipate the course of events resulting from the treatment. Students should understand the mechanisms, indications and contraindications, adverse side effects, interactions, toxicity, and focus on the pharmacokinetic properties of each product.
Prerequisites
Anatomy, physiology, pathology, biochemistry, basics of pharmacology, clinical medicine.
Learning outcomes
Describe and explain the principles and pharmacokinetic properties of drug groups and active substances, indications, major adverse reactions, contraindications. Characterize and explain the major interaction risks and effects of drug groups on efficacy, toxicity (if applicable).
On completion of the study course, students will be able to describe preparations of pharmacotherapeutic groups, formulate their mechanisms of action, indications and contraindications, as well as side effects, justify and base their opinion on the chosen treatment, modulate the applied therapy in different clinical situations. To argue reasonably on the usefulness of a pharmacotherapeutic strategy in cases of particular disease pathology; to critically analyze the usefulness of pharmacotherapeutic strategies in the context of organ system diseases.
On completion of the study course, students will be able to: 1. Use theoretical and practical knowledge and competence in clinical pharmacology and the use of medicinal products. 2. Choose the most appropriate medication according to the individual situation in an individualized dosage regimen to ensure optimal patient treatment and disease prevention. 3. Assess the risks and benefits of treatment. 4. Independently obtain, select and analyze information regarding medications, their use and use in the treatment process. 5. Demonstrate a scientific approach to solving topical issues, as well as have good knowledge of specific literature.
