About Study Course
Objective
To develop the understanding of and gain knowledge about the care of pregnant women and women in labour, pathologies of pregnancy and childbirth, gynaecological diseases.
Prerequisites
In anatomy, physiology and pathological physiology, pharmacology, communication and ethics.
Learning outcomes
After completing the study course, the student is able to describe the anatomy of the female genital organs; understand the menstrual cycle and hormonal regulation; is able to name contraceptive methods; has developed an understanding of conception, the course of foetal development, is able to explain the physiological and pathological course of childbirth; understands the main principles of obstetric assistance in case of abnormal childbirth; is able to perform differential diagnosis in case of acute conditions in gynaecology; understands operative gynaecology, the main gynaecological diseases in children and adolescents, care.
As a result of completing the study course, the student learns and practically knows how to: describe the anatomy and physiology of the female genital organs; explain to a woman the physiology of the menstrual cycle; describe the physiology of conception and foetal development; demonstrate the biomechanisms of childbirth on a model; assess pathology during pregnancy, solve problems in various clinical situations – during pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum period in case of gynaecological diseases; can explain the need for examinations, interpret the obtained results, prescribe examinations, evaluate precancerous diseases, benign and malignant tumours.
Students know how to assess the progress of physiological and pathological childbirth, are practically able to assist in childbirth in the case of occipital anterior and posterior position, diagnose pathology in early pregnancy, critically evaluate emergency conditions and provide the necessary care (ensure primary resuscitation). Able to provide care to a gynaecological patient, pregnant woman, woman giving birth during various clinical procedures, knows how to organise medical documentation.
