Objective

To promote the acquisition of knowledge and understanding of the regulatory framework in health care – the rights and duties of medical practitioners, patients, the rights and duties of a minor patient, protection of personal data, processing, and medical records, rights and duties in the field of sexual and reproductive health, legal issues of death and use of human tissues and organs.

Prerequisites

Philosophy and medical ethics, communication psychology and communication skills, public health and epidemiology.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

Knowledge and understanding of the legal regulation of healthcare. Knowledge of the principles of medical law and their application in daily work. Knowledge of the rights and duties of medical personnel, patients, including minor patients. Knowledge and understanding of the legal framework of sexual and reproductive health. Knowledge of personal data protection in healthcare. Knowledge of the procedures for keeping medical documents. Comprehension of recognising violence and the responsibilities of the healthcare worker in such situations.

Skills

Understanding of the legal matters of healthcare, incl. the rights and duties of medical practitioners, patients, and keeping of medical records. Knowledge of the applicable law in professional duties and in situations that may arise in daily work.

Competence

After completion of the study course, students are familiar with the legal regulation of health care. The students will acquire competencies in the application of legal regulation of the health care: rights and duties of patients, including minors; rights and duties of healthcare personnel; legal regulation of patient data protection; special regulation of sexual and reproductive health; medical records; students will obtain competencies in recognising violence and the responsibilities of the healthcare personnel in such cases.
