Objective

To acquire skills and knowledge of correct reading, writing, usage and explanation of anatomical terms, the usage of this knowledge in the professional work.

Prerequisites

Latvian and English Alphabet.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

On completion of the course the student will know:
• to define basic rules in reading and writing of medical terminology;
• to name the Latin and Greek prefixes and word endings for new word formation;
• to name and explain the Latin combining forms and their meanings;
• to interpret rules for making, explaining and usage of anatomical and clinical terms.

Skills

On completion of the study course the students will be able to:
• read and write correctly the medical terms;
• form new words and to identify them;
• form and explain the anatomical and medical terms;
• classify and compare the medical terms;
• to interpret Latin expressions, understand their meaning.

Competence

On completion of the study course, the students will be able to write and use properly anatomical terminology in academic settings and in their speciality.
