Objective

The aim of the study course is to provide theoretical and practical knowledge about the structure of modern health care systems - their goals, tasks and basic principles of formation, as well as the main current issues in the planning, management and provision of health care services.
The study course is oriented towards health policy and health system performance analysis. Students will learn the operational framework, types and elements of health systems, based on the approach and recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO) and other international organizations. Upon successful completion of the course, students will understand the principles of health systems, the latest conceptual approaches, the nature of reforms, and the principles of performance evaluation.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

Upon successful completion of the course the students will:
• Know and understand the goals, elements and interactions of health care systems;
• Know the types of health systems and their main features and basic operating principles;
• Understand the objectives of the sustainability policy and management principles;
• Know the classification systems used in health care;
• Know and understand the nature of health systems problem analysis and reforms;
• Understand the principle of performance evaluation of health systems.

Skills

The students will learn how to:
• Interpret the goals and objectives of health health systems;
• Explain how health systems are organized and managed;
• Explain the models of different healthcare organizations;
• Use comparative analysis in the evaluation of different health systems;
• Prepare proposals for solving problem situations of health care systems;
• Be familiar with health system performance analysis.

Competence

Students will be able to:
• Create health policy and strategy;
• Perform health system problem analysis and develop relevant health policy recommendations and solutions;
• Evaluate the performance of health systems.
