Objective

Acquaint students with basic issues of a healthcare organisation, the scope and functioning of the right to health in practice, including by studying the competence and activities of health protection and healthcare organisations both internationally and in Latvia. Acquaint students with the place and role of the rights of healthcare organisations in the legal system, sources and general concepts. Develop students’ understanding and analytical skills by addressing current issues of health and healthcare organisations.

Prerequisites

Theory of law. Human rights. Administrative rights. Administrative process. Commercial law. Administrative responsibility. Introduction to civil law. Civil rights. Civil procedure law. Work rights. Constitutional rights. Criminal law. Criminal proceedings.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

Students know the place and role of the healthcare organisation in the legal system, basic legal issues of the healthcare organisation, legal concepts related to the healthcare organisation. On completion of the study course, students are able to integrate the acquired knowledge and contribute to the acquisition of new knowledge.

Skills

Students are able to analyse practical legal examples of healthcare organisation. Students are able to conduct research in this area, analyse in detail court practice, express a reasoned opinion, obtain and/or prepare necessary documents in the field of healthcare organisation rights. Students are able to explain reasonably and discuss complicated healthcare issues with both with sector professionals and other people.

Competence

Students are competent to address health and organisational issues and have acquired the ability to conduct basic multidisciplinary research.
