Objective

To provide master students with knowledge on current issues in healthcare, on challenges in the rights of practitioners and patients. To promote understanding of the practice of implementing the rights of healthcare professionals and patients. To develop the ability to identify problems, challenges and solutions through independent work and to foster an interest in medical law.

Prerequisites

Civil Law and Civil Procedure, Administrative Law and Administrative Process, Criminal Law and Criminal Process, Human Rights. Recommended: Patients’ Rights, Social Law, Law in Medicine, and Health Care Organisation Rights.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

As a result of completing the course, students will have a basic knowledge of current legal issues in the health sector and the legislation governing the rights of medical staff and patients. Students will be able to use the acquired knowledge as a basis for further research in law studies.
Also, as a result of completing the study course, students will be able to incorporate and compile knowledge of different branches of law in the field of health and medical law, as well as to contribute to the creation of new knowledge, research, and professional activities. Students will be able to demonstrate understanding, knowledge, and skills in the field and the impact thereof on processes in society and on different groups in society.

Skills

As a result of the study course, students will be able to identify problems of legal nature in the health sector, in the activities of medical practitioners and to find solutions.
As a result of the course, students will have acquired the problem-solving skills necessary for research to generate new knowledge on uncertain issues. They will be able to analyse, argue and debate a variety of complex issues in the field of health and medical law with both professionals and lay members.

Competence

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to independently analyse legal issues in the health sector. Students will be able to independently obtain, select, and analyse the necessary information and sources of law for theoretical and practical analysis and research on a particular legal issue.
Students will be able to analyse socially legal processes in a creative and constructive manner, to debate using logical and well-grounded arguments, as well as to use knowledge of various fields to solve problems and find solutions legally and responsibly.
