Objective

The student acquires in-depth knowledge and an idea of neurosurgically correctable pathologies.

Prerequisites

Aquired skills in compulsory subject "Neurosurgery" in study programme "Medicine" are required.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

On completion of the study course student should acquire in-depth knowledge and expertise about diagnostic principles of different neurosurgical pathologies, and types and specificity of different cranial and spinal neurosurgical operations, and is able to apply the acquired knowledge for conservative and surgical treatment of various neurosurgical diseases.

Skills

Upon successful completion of the study course the student will acquire the skills and abilities that will allow to:
• draw up the examination and treatment plan for neurosurgical pathologies;
• identify surgical treatment tactics, operation type selection for various neurosurgical diseases;
• explain the difficulties during neurosurgical operations, their prevention, the tactics of action;
• predict the possible outcome of illness and treatment;
• be familiar with the latest international developments in neurosurgical field.

Competence

The resulting competence of the study course acquisition will allow to independently analyse medical problems of neurosurgical diseases, to rationally use additional opportunities for investigation, to make the situation analysis, display the individual attitude for patients and to justify the chosen treatment plan.
