Objective

To develop an idea of the place and role of supervision in the development of high-quality social work. To build awareness of supervision as an important tool for preventing professional burnout. To create confidence in the role of supervision in promoting the professional growth of a social worker.

Prerequisites

Theoretical knowledge of social work, knowledge of social work methods. Understanding the ethics of social work and ability to address ethical dilemmas in social work practice. Active position and ability to engage in discussions and to participate in group work. Knowledge of group work and group dynamics. Knowledge of the basic principles of negotiating individually and within the group.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

At the end of the course, the student will know and be able to understand and explain the concepts and terminology associated with supervision, assess the need for supervision, name and describe the types and forms of supervision, will be able to compare and describe supervisory styles.

Skills

The student will be able to search, find, classify and analyse the information on the availability of the supervision service, will be able to justify the need for supervision and select the most suitable and appropriate options for effective solution of social problems, will be able to use terminology.

Competence

Upon completion of the study course, the student will have acquired the ability to use the acquired knowledge to formulate a problem situation in which supervision is required, to create a supervision task, to search for and find the service provider needed to solve the problem and to define the order in a reasoned way.
