Objective

To provide basic knowledge of human mental functioning and psychosomatic aspects in dentistry; skills in giving psychoemotional support; therapeutic hygienist -patient relationship differences within different personalities.

Prerequisites

The basic view of psyche in nature sciences and human sciences. Anatomy and physiology of nervous system.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

Basic knowledge of interaction between personality structure, development and functioning; interaction between mental and somatic processes and psychosomatic aspects in practice.

Skills

Will develop skills to analyze different personality characteristics and relationship examples; develop skills to analyze clinical cases in practice from psychosomatic view. Skills in giving supportive therapy elements in therapeutic hygienist - patient relationship.

Competence

To recognize psychosomatic disorders in practice and recommend consultation with a psychotherapist. To give supportive therapy elements.
