Preliminary Knowledge: | General understanding of the functions and anatomy of the human body, understanding of environmental factors and their impact on human health. | ||||||||
Objective: | The aim of the course is to provide students with a modern understanding of the working environment, provide background knowledge of the impact of the working environment on the health of employees and successful operation of businesses, and the role of occupational health and safety in improving public health. | ||||||||

Assessment | |||||||||
Unaided Work: | • works with literature and texts/tasks provided by the lecturer (30%); • participates in group work analysing situational tasks related to ergonomic risk assessment (40%); • takes an examination on the course (30%). | ||||||||
Assessment Criteria: | Students are able to answer at least 60% of the questions in the examination. | ||||||||

Learning Outcomes | |||||||||
Knowledge: | Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to assess the most important risk factors in the working environment in Latvia and worldwide, as well as their impact on the individual, company and society as a whole. | ||||||||
Skills: | Students will be able to identify and assess risk factors in the working environment, evaluate the results of such assessment and analyse the impact on health and processes in companies and society. | ||||||||
Competencies: | Students will be able to identify the possible effects of occupational risk factors on each individual involved in work processes, will be able to determine extent and hazardousness of the risk, as well as to plan the most important preventive measures in accordance with the requirements of legislation and recommendations. Students will be able to present the results obtained in writing and orally to professionals in the field and the public, as well as to present results and solutions at scientific and practical conferences. | ||||||||
