Preliminary Knowledge:
Prior knowledge in Biology, medical statistics, basics of epidemiology.
Objective:
To provide knowledge and understanding of oncology as an essential problem of public health.

Assessment
Unaided Work:
Individual work with medical literature, with the patient - taking an anamnesis, interpreting examinations, drawing up a treatment plan, formulating a possible diagnosis.
Assessment Criteria:
The final grade of the course will be the average grade, which will be formed from the students' attendance and the exam grade. At the end of the study course, an exam is planned, consisting of multiple-choice questions and theory questions.

Learning Outcomes
Knowledge:You will be able to explain the terms of medical statistics and epidemiology describing oncology, explain cancer incidence and mortality trends, analyze Latvian data in the context of other countries, classify tumors according to their prognosis and predictive markers, explain the importance of epidemiological factors and the possibilities of tumor therapy.
Skills:Will be able to collect essential information from the cancer registry and SPKC data, perform data analysis, present oncological statistics in Latvia and other countries.
Competencies:Will be able to correctly formulate a cancer diagnosis, understand the goals and principles of tumor therapy, interpret tumor statistical and epidemiological data, argue the destructive effects of unconventional medicine, logically formulate and explain the etiology and biology of tumors.
