Study course description
Preliminary Knowledge:
Professional Bachelor’s degree in Law. In particular – knowledge on the legal theory, legal methods, philosophy of law, administrative and constitutional law, administrative process.
Objective:
To improve students' knowledge of the protection of constitutional rights. The course will address issues related to the interpretation of the Satversme and procedural aspects of the protection of constitutional rights deriving from the Satversme, the Constitutional Court Law and the Rules of Procedure of the Constitutional Court. In the practical part of the course, students, both individually and in teams, must be able to resolve case studies related to the infringement of fundamental rights and must prepare, submit and evaluate a constitutional complaint.

Assessment
Unaided Work:
A student must prepare and submit a constitutional complaint (application)
Assessment Criteria:
Student assessment is expressed in %. Work in seminars – 15%; for each test – 10%; report – constitutional complaint – 25% (5% of which – review); exam – 50%. Students who have not passed all the tests with an assessment of at least 50% will not be admitted to the exam.

Learning Outcomes
Knowledge:Students are able to demonstrate their understanding and orient themselves in current issues of legal regulation in the field of constitutional procedure law.
Skills:Students can independently analyze and understand the interpretation of the norms of the Constitution, analyze the process of constitutional control and prepare a constitutional complaint, and implement the methodology that the Constitutional Court applies in its practice.
Competencies:Students are able to show understanding and provide a critical assessment of what constitutes an infringement of fundamental rights. Able to apply regulatory acts corresponding to the specifics of constitutional law, justify decisions and, if necessary, perform additional analysis.
