Preliminary Knowledge:
Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure Law. Operational Activities Law.
Objective:
To provide students with theoretical knowledge and develop practical skills in the implementation of criminal intelligence in the prevention and solving of economic crime. Tasks: 1. to provide students with theoretical knowledge on the nature of criminal intelligence, the use of criminal intelligence results in the organisation of institutional work, the development of the criminal intelligence model; 2. to develop an understanding of the information available for criminal intelligence and the possibilities for its selection, analysis and use; 3. to develop practical criminal intelligence skills in the prevention and solving of economic crime, the application of analysis, according to specialisation, the use of criminal intelligence products in the organisation of the work of the institution / evidence.

Assessment
Unaided Work:
The study course will build students’ skills in synthesising theoretical approaches with empirical facts and develop students’ ability to assess the scope, types and impact of economic crime on national security. Knowledge of criminal intelligence methods and techniques to ensure the use of available information for achieving specific criminal intelligence objectives. Within specific assignments, the ability to develop a coherent and complex economic crime investigation will be developed. Before the practical classes, students are familiarised with the required reading and laws and regulations governing the criminal intelligence process. During the class, students work in groups, analyse cases and solve problems, develop plans for information acquisition and analysis, according to the types of crime. At the end of the group work, students present their work and discuss it with their peers. As part of the study course, students write a paper (10-12 pages) on a topic of their choice. In the report, the student analyses specific types of economic crime, identifies sources of information, develops a plan for information acquisition and analysis, selects analytical methods and justifies the use of the results in evidence or conducts a strategic analysis of types of economic crime.
Assessment Criteria:
Activity and preparedness during classes – 20%; Paper – 30%; Exam (test) – 50%.

Learning Outcomes
Knowledge:Upon successful completion of the study course, the student: - analyses the possibilities of using criminal intelligence in the development of the institution’s work organisation, evidence and the recovery of proceeds of crime; - describes how criminal intelligence information is exchanged at national and international level; - explains their role and responsibilities and those of the institution they represent in the National Criminal Intelligence Model and the European Multidisciplinary Platform Against Criminal Threats (EMPACT).
Skills:Upon successful completion of the study course, the student: - will be able to acquire, group, analyse and evaluate criminal intelligence information using strategic operational analytical methods; - will carry out activities related to the analysis of criminal intelligence development issues, planning and implementation thereof; - will carry out the tasks of the National Criminal Intelligence Model and the European Multidisciplinary Platform Against Criminal Threats (EMPACT); - will take optimal decisions on the necessary actions to prevent and combat economic crime, based on the results of the strategic analysis.
Competencies:Upon successful completion of the study course, the student: - will set the strategic and operational-tactical objectives of the institution to combat economic crime; - will objectively define strategic priorities for preventing and combating economic crime; - will be able to make optimal decisions on the necessary measures to obtain new criminal intelligence information; - will evaluate the institution’s performance in combating economic crime.
