Assessment | |||||||||
Unaided Work: | During the study course, students: 1. Participate in two seminars: Effects of chemical and physical pollution of the environment on health and health risk factors during sports classes (the seminar takes place after observing practice at school). 2. Perform three independent works: - research Health Risk Factors in an educational institution; - a project (based on research results) for the prevention of health risk factors in an educational institution; - analysis of problem situations regarding safety and health risk factors in the sports teacher’s work environment. Prepare for the final examination. | ||||||||
Assessment Criteria: | The assessment of the study course is formed by summing up different tests during the course. Students may take the final examination only if they have passed all the interim examinations. Interim examinations 70%: 1. Seminars: - Effects of chemical and physical pollution on health. Current developments in Latvia. Each student prepares a presentation on one seminar question. The work is presented in a group or frontally, depending on the number of students. - Health risk factors in sports classes (does an sports lesson/class always serves health?). Discussion in groups on observations made during observation placement. Each participant’s contribution is assessed on the basis of a pizza principle. 2. Research Health risk factors in an educational institution. Presentation of research results – 15%. 3. Project Limitation/prevention of health risk factors. Planned measures for the prevention of health risk factors are presented. The project is submitted for assessment – 20%. 4. Analysis of problem situations regarding safety and health risk factors in the sports teacher’s work environment. Individual work. Students analyse situations prepared by the teaching staff and solve problems in the sports teacher’s work environment. The work is submitted for assessment – 15%. Final Examination: Impact of environmental factors on health, assessment of the risks of the working environment in educational institutions, preventive measures for the preservation of the health of students – 20%. | ||||||||

Learning Outcomes | |||||||||
Knowledge: | 1. Impact of physical, chemical, biological, social and psycho-emotional factors of the environment on health. 2. Risk factors in the environment, knows their negative impact and prevention possibilities. | ||||||||
Skills: | 3. Creates an intellectually stimulating, emotionally and physically secure study environment in line with hygiene and occupational safety regulations 4. Explores health risk factors in the work and study environment of pupils and teachers, develops proposals for improvement. 5. Integrates the content of different subjects into the study of environmental factors affecting health. | ||||||||
