Preliminary Knowledge: | To start study course (or semester) all previous assessments according to Study plan (D1) should be successfully passed. Topographic anatomy and operative surgery in the oral and maxillofacial region, oral surgery, pathophysiology in general and special pathology, general surgery, diagnostic radiology, internal medicine with propaedeutics, pharmacology, emergency care. | ||||||||
Objective: | At the end of the course completion the student should have integrated knowledge of oral and maxillofacial surgery from previous study years, adding oncostomatology, orthognathic surgery, as well as be able to perform minor surgical operations and manipulations in dentistry, as well as be able to continue postgraduate studies in oral and maxillofacial surgery or a related specialty. | ||||||||

Assessment | |||||||||
Unaided Work: | Individual theoretical preparation for each class, independent literature reading. Please fill in the course evaluation form at the end of the course. | ||||||||
Assessment Criteria: | • Active participation in practical classes; timely submission of well-executed written homework; quality of oral responses during each practical class. • Theoretical and practical skills assessment in colloquium. • At the end of the course, there will be two cumulative examinations. 1.) The cumulative examination for the State examination. Integrated exam. State examination in oral and maxillofacial surgery together with oral pathology. Qualitative answers to 3 theoretical questions, recognition and analysis of X-rays, prescribing medication, recognition of surgical instruments and formulation of application (100%). 2.) At the study course student’s performance is evaluated in cumulative assessment. Total final grade is formed from the fulfilment of the following criteria with an appropriate proportion: 1. Class attendance - 15% 2. Attitude and communication to patients, staff and colleagues (classmates) - 20% 3. Performance in practical class and seminars - 15% 4. Course final exam - 50% | ||||||||

Learning Outcomes | |||||||||
Knowledge: | After this course acquisition the students must memorize methods of primary and emergency care in cases of oro-maxillo-facial injuries and acute inflammatory diseases; must recognize clinical signs of tumorous diseases of facial skin, lips and oral mucosa; the principles of differential diagnosis and of treatment protocol for malignancies, congenital and acquired deformities in oro-maxillo-facial region. | ||||||||
Skills: | As a result of the study program acquisition, students will be able to identify pathology in the oral and maxillo facial region, if necessary, perform independent treatment or refer the patient to another specialist for appropriate procedures (pain and fear control, emergency care, extraction, intraoral incision, biopsy, minor dentoalveolar surgery). To communicate skillfully with the patient, his family members, as well as with other medical specialists. | ||||||||
Competencies: | The students will be competent in ethical praxis including the role and limitations of performing different procedures themselves or referring patients properly. They will be competent in different diagnostic and treatment methods of pathologies in oral and maxillofacial region. The students will recognize the significance of lifelong learning. | ||||||||
