Preliminary Knowledge: | The knowledge and skills acquired in the previous years of study in the theoretical and professional specialisation study courses of the field. | ||||||||
Objective: | The objective of clinical placement is to develop and strengthen professional competence to be able to implement occupational therapy interventions in different contexts according to the professional standard of occupational therapists, using occupational therapy technologies approved in Latvia and evidence-based practice. | ||||||||

Assessment | |||||||||
Unaided Work: | Literature studies, clinical case seminars, analysis and presentation of clinical cases according to the occupational therapy practice process structure guidelines. | ||||||||
Assessment Criteria: | Timely submission of clinical placement documentation according to the placement context (25%), written clinical case analysis following occupational therapy placement process structure guidelines and presentation in a seminar (25%). Occupational therapy technology testing (50%). | ||||||||

Learning Outcomes | |||||||||
Knowledge: | As a result of successfully completing the course, the student will be able to: • recognise difficulties in performing the occupation in different age groups; • explain and justify the differences in the occupational therapy practice process in different societal and practical contexts; • describe the process of occupational therapy practice in patients with somatic conditions; • explain and justify occupational therapist tactics for various somatic conditions. | ||||||||
Skills: | As a result of successfully completing the course, the student will be able to: • apply the skills of occupational promotion in the process of practice of an occupational therapist; • assess the patient’s occupational status, expectations and potential for change; • analyse primary assessment data and interpret the assessment; • educate the patient, relatives and other members of the rehabilitation team about the results of the assessment; • formulate short- and long-term therapy goals; • develop a therapy plan in line with long-term and short-term therapy goals; • implement an evidence-based therapy plan with the active involvement of the patient; • apply occupational therapy technologies approved in Latvia; • assess and document therapy outcome, analyse assessment data and interpret assessment; • prepare written and oral recommendations. | ||||||||
Competencies: | Using the acquired knowledge and skills, the student will be able to implement the process of occupational therapy practice with patients/customers and relatives in somatic medicine. | ||||||||
