Preliminary Knowledge: | Knowledge on human anatomy and physiology, professional competencies of art therapists, desirable knowledge in medical ethics. | ||||||||
Objective: | The aim of this study course is to create awareness on basic principles and content of medical rehabilitation, its role in health services for different clinical populations. The course will include information on organization of medical rehabilitation services in Latvia; tasks and goals of rehabilitation and the practical use of them in medical and social contexts; principles of comprehensive evaluation of person’s health and health related information using the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF); principles on multi-professional team work and competences of involved rehabilitation professionals and their role in rehabilitation team. | ||||||||

Assessment | |||||||||
Unaided Work: | 1. Fulfill 5 tests with multi choice questions’ on e-studies, according to five main topics of this course. 2. Perform evaluation of patient and systematize problems according to the ICF. 3. Perform assessment of identified problems using appropriate assessment tools. 4. Presentation on role, competences and tasks of chosen rehabilitation specialist. 5. Prepare, submit and present report on patient’s assessment and rehabilitation plan. | ||||||||
Assessment Criteria: | The final score of this course will be cumulative result of scores of the tests (5x10% = 50%), participation in lectures and seminars (20%) and evaluation of report on patient’s assessment and rehabilitation plan. | ||||||||

Learning Outcomes | |||||||||
Knowledge: | • To recognise different types of medical rehabilitation services, define inclusion criteria and outcomes, as well as describe their contents. • To describe basic principles of medical rehabilitation. • To identify main health problems that are targeted by this field. • To recognise the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF), provided by the World Health Organization, name the goals, properties, and important definitions. • To recognise properties of assessment tools, used in rehabilitation, describe its meaning. • To define competencies of different rehabilitation professionals and recognise health and health related problems they are dealing with. | ||||||||
Skills: | • To perform evaluation of functioning and systematize them using ICF. • To assess persons’ health condition and limitations and restrictions in functioning, using commonly known assessment tools. • To be able to find health and health related information, relevant for specific clinical situations and interpret it within the professional competences. • To set goals for rehabilitation therapy. | ||||||||
Competencies: | • To interpret various aspects of functioning (body functions and structures, activities and participation) in interaction with health condition and contextual factors. • To choose most appropriate assessment tools, according to given clinical situation. • To participate in the development of rehabilitation plan for various clinical situations. • To discuss possible solutions for identified problems within the framework of rehabilitation system. | ||||||||
