Preliminary Knowledge: | Pedagogy, Psychology, Early Childhood Development and Introduction to Speech Therapy, Anatomy, Physiology. | ||||||||
Objective: | To acquire knowledge for the field of speech therapy science and the profession of audiology therapy about speech tempo and rhythm disorders, stuttering. To understand the history of stuttering research in genetics, neurophysiology, neuropsychology and their relationship to speech tempo and rhythm disorders. To explain the causes of stuttering, early risk signs and the relationship to speech and language disorders in childhood. Using a research-based approach, be able to identify and assess the signs of stuttering disorder in children/adolescents and adults. Analyze information and integrate assessment results, plan correction / compensation directions and choose the most appropriate therapy techniques, respecting the person's functional capabilities. Assessment | |||||||||
Unaided Work: | 1. Analysis of 3-4 studies, creating a summary. 2. Transcript of speech recording and its analysis, determination of correction directions, selection of methodological techniques. 3. Compilation of the evaluation report. 4. Creation of test materials (group work). 5. Presentation on correction/compensation technological solutions in a computerized environment (pair work) DAF/FAF. 6. Individual presentation on the possibilities of using materials in diagnosis and therapy of the disorder. In order to evaluate the quality of the study course as a whole, the student must fill out the study course evaluation questionnaire on the Student Portal. | ||||||||

Learning Outcomes | |||||||||
Knowledge: | - will acquire knowledge and understanding of the nature of specific speech tempo/rhythm and stuttering disorders; - will gain an understanding of the latest research in genetics, neurophysiology, neuropsychology and their connection with speech tempo and rhythm disorders, stuttering. - will understand and be able to formulate the causes of stuttering, risk signs and their connection with speech and language disorders in diagnosis and therapy; - will analyze the obtained information and choose appropriate research-based methods for assessing disorders; - will be able to determine the direction of correction and choose the appropriate correction/compensation techniques according to the person's functional capabilities. | ||||||||
Skills: | - will be able to assess speech/rhythm and detect signs of stuttering at different ages; - will be able to demonstrate an evidence-based approach to stuttering diagnosis; - will analyze and integrate assessment results and other relevant information to set intervention/therapy goals; - will learn to plan and apply various evidence-based therapy methodologies/techniques in the practice of speech and language therapist using the necessary materials and technological solutions in person and remotely on telemedicine platforms. | ||||||||
Competencies: | - will be able to practically use the acquired knowledge about speech rhythm and tempo disorders and stuttering, assess the risks and signs of disorders; - will be able to analyze information, plan evidence-based therapy directions for reducing speech tempo and rhythm disorders and creating more fluent speech in cases of stuttering; - will choose appropriate therapy methodologies/techniques and technological solutions, respecting the person's functional capabilities, - will monitor and evaluate the results achieved while performing the work of a speech and language theraphy individually or in a team. | ||||||||
