Preliminary Knowledge: | Having completed the mandatory Latvian course (2 or 3 semesters) but no additional Latvian courses. | ||||||||
Objective: | To learn the basic vocabulary and conversation skills necessary to interview a patient efficiently: body parts, most common complaints, and most common sentence structures. | ||||||||

Unaided Work: | Individual work – memorizing listed vocabulary of the corresponding topic. | ||||||||
Assessment Criteria: | At the end of each semester – an oral test on the topics covered during the semester: a conversation with a patient according to a given pattern. The final grade consists of the 1st-semester test results (50%) and 2nd-semester exam results (50%). At the end of the course, every student must fill the course evaluation survey. | ||||||||

Learning Outcomes | |||||||||
Knowledge: | On successful completion of the course students will be able to use the basic vocabulary of medical conversation: body parts, sensations, most common symptoms. | ||||||||
Skills: | On successful completion of the course students will be able to formulate questions in simple Latvian and grasp the point of the answer about the most common medical complaints. | ||||||||
Competencies: | On successful completion of the course students will be able to use the skills they gained in their basic Latvian course to interview patients about the most common complaints. | ||||||||
