Preliminary Knowledge: | Philosophy of Public Health and Health Promotion, Public Health and Dental Care, Prevention of Dental Diseases. | ||||||||
Objective: | To give students practical and theoretical knowledge and experience in oral health promotion and education for the elderly. | ||||||||

Assessment | |||||||||
Unaided Work: | Students individually develop a presentation and educational material for the Daily Social Centers, present it and give an educational lecture in one of the Social Centers. Completion of the course evaluation questionnaire. | ||||||||
Assessment Criteria: | Attendance of classes and lectures. Evaluation and defence of presentations and development of educational materials make up 30% of the evaluation. Test of multiple-choice questions on topics acquired in lectures and classes. The test is passed if 55% of the correct answers are given. The test grade is 30% of the final grade. Work with patient in clinic, result make 40% of the evaluation. | ||||||||

Learning Outcomes | |||||||||
Knowledge: | At the end of the study course, students will have knowledge about senior oral health. Knowledge of the peculiarities of the body of elderly patients, understanding of pathological processes in the mouth of the elderly, knowledge of the treatment of elderly patient and oral health improvement. | ||||||||
Skills: | Students will be able to evaluate the attitude and knowledge of the elderly about the possibilities of promoting oral health. Provide dietary recommendations for dental caries. Will be able to evaluate the effects of drugs on oral health. Take preventive measures and provide oral hygiene measures for the elderly. | ||||||||
Competencies: | Students will be able to apply their knowledge in providing care for the elderly in the clinic, assessing the general state of health and habits. Student will be competent – to identify risk groups according to the patient's skills in oral hygiene, determination of caries intensity, evaluation of periodontal and oral mucosal condition and occlusion. Will be able to develop an oral health education, prevention and clinical treatment plan, thus providing appropriate treatment for each elderly patient. | ||||||||
