Preliminary Knowledge: | Dental anatomy, histology, medical biochemistry, biomaterials in dentistry and medical terminology in Latin. | ||||||||
Objective: | To develop students’ knowledge of basic principles of cavity formation and filling, different filling materials and indications for their use as well as necessary skills for applying the acquired knowledge in the practical treatment of caries. | ||||||||

Assessment | |||||||||
Unaided Work: | Individual and pair work - preparation of presentations or other creative works, according to the course topics (the type of work and the deadline for preparation are determined by the teacher). Preparation of questions on the topic that will be covered in the lesson Individual work with 3D simulators. In order to evaluate the quality of the study course as a whole, the student must fill out the study course evaluation questionnaire on the Student Portal. | ||||||||
Assessment Criteria: | Evaluation of the cavities created by the student according to the basic principles in the creation of cavities and quality criteria of the created cavity. Assessment of the quality of seals, according to quality criteria; Evaluation of individual stages of sealing technique; Adherence to the ZF Code of Ethics (affects the final evaluation) Active participation in seminars, quality of oral and written answers; Tests at the end of the topic - examination of the application of the acquired knowledge. At the end of the course, an exam consisting of an OSCE and an oral answer. The OSCE part tests the practical application of knowledge and acquired manual skills in the pre-clinical training base. The assessment includes creating a cavity, filling technique and the final result of filling, putting on the matrix holder and rubber dam for repairing the exam tooth, selection of drills and tools to be filled, adherence to infection control (only basic things - gloves, mask, goggles - their correct use), patient (mullas) positioning towards the doctor (student). General test of theoretical knowledge in the oral part. | ||||||||

Learning Outcomes | |||||||||
Knowledge: | On successful completion of the course the students will be able to: define caries and cavity classification; list and describe basic principles and steps of cavity formation; list the filling materials, describe their classification, qualities and indication for usage; recognize and list dental burs and instruments. | ||||||||
Skills: | On successful completion of the course, the students will be able to: form cavities on the maxillary and the mandibular teeth; select and use the right filling material; fill up the formed cavities with the adequate filling material. | ||||||||
Competencies: | On successful completion of the course, the students will be able to apply this knowledge and practical skills in the practical treatment of caries. | ||||||||
