| Preliminary Knowledge: | Successful evaluations in clinical study courses: Preventive Dentistry I, II, Cariology, Endodontics, Periodontology, Peadiatric Therapeutic Dentistry, Topographic Anatomy and Operative Surgery in the Oral, Maxillofacial Surgery, Oral Surgery, Pathological Physiology, General and Specialty Pathology, in oral diseases with a foundation in prophylaxis, in pharmacology, in emergency care and Prosthetic Dentistry. | ||||||||
| Objective: | Enhance the level of students' skills, knowledge and competence by allowing them to combine previously acquired knowledge and practical skills in a new quality, raising their level of competence and bringing them closer to the general practice dental model, looking at the patient as a whole and carrying out all the necessary treatment according to their level of competence in Peadiatrics Dentistry and Conservative Dentistry. | ||||||||

| Unaided Work: | Individual preparation for the acquisition of theoretical knowledge and practical skills. Independent reading of literature. Examination of fuel patients, observation in dynamics. | ||||||||
| Assessment Criteria: | Students will keep a register of the work done every day; the work done will be evaluated (number of admitted patients, information and motivation in oral prevention, fillings placed, teeth extracted, endodontics performed, prostheses made), in children's dentistry, therapy, surgery and dental prosthetics. | ||||||||

| Knowledge: | Student will explain the role of nutrition, biofilm and saliva in the etiology of oral diseases. Describe tooth cleaning techniques with toothbrush and dental floss. Toothpastes will be classified according to their composition and indications. The active and auxiliary ingredients of toothpastes, their mechanism of action, effect and possible side effects will be described. Will classify dental care products. Indications for the use of different dental care products will be described. Explain the indications and use of professional and home fluoride products. The indications for the use of silants will be explained. Methods for detecting carious lesions will be classified and described. Describe the severity of the caries and the methods of recording activity. The student will be able to: • describe the structure, functions, pathology of dental hard tissue; • define the role of local and general factors, microorganisms, carbohydrates, tooth and saliva interactions, fluorides, nutrition, socio-economic factors in the origin of caries and dental hard tissue pathologies; • classify clinical manifestations of caries and dental hard tissue pathologies; • differential diagnosis of face-jaw pain and pulmonary and periapical tissue disease. Student will understand and be able to explain the microbiology and immunology of pulp and periapical tissue, its relation to general body diseases. Will be able to evaluate the outcome of treatment and to make prognosis for endodontically treated tooth. Will be able to recognize the types of periodontal disease; • to formulate the stages of planned treatment of periodontal diseases and their sequence; • understand pulmonary and periodontal pathologies; evaluate indications for surgical and complicated endodontic treatment and referal to an endodontic specialist. The student will be able to present basic knowledge of the types of inflammatory diseases and injuries of the face and jaws, their mechanisms of origin, principles of diagnosis and treatment. | Skills: | Student will demonstrate patient tooth cleaning techniques with toothbrush and dental floss. Make individual recommendations to patients for prevention of oral illness. The most appropriate nutritional adjustment effects for each patient will be selected and applied. Analyze the quality of saliva / saliva secretion in the patient and the associated risk of oral disease. Appropriate toothpaste will be recommended to the patient. Will recommend oral care products appropriate to the patient's needs. Methods of recording caries severity and activity will be used. Develop prevention and treatment plans for patients based on their age group or special needs. Students will be able to apply specific diagnostic tests for pulp and periapical tissue diseases, to perform X-rays in endodontics. Will be able to isolate endodontically treated teeth. Will be able to treat and prevent vital pulp. Will be able to use appropriate methods for the treatment of vital and devitalic single-root and multi-root teeth with uncomplicated anatomy and to provide emergency treatment in acute cases. The student will be able to evaluate relationships and integrate knowledge of other medical and dental disciplines in the diagnosis, prognosis and treatment of caries and dental hard tissue pathology pulp and periodontal pathology. The student will have acquired local and general examination skills of patients (palpation, auscultation). On completion of the study course students will be able to collect purposeful history and clinically examine a patient with facial-jaw inflammations and injuries, make a temporary diagnosis, send for radiographic and other additional examination, interpret radiography and laboratory examinations, determine the place of treatment. In case of injuries, provide emergency treatment and temporary immobilization, refer the patient to an appropriate institution for specialized treatment. Will be able to perform intraoral incisions and prescribe medication. | ||||||||
| Competencies: | Will be able to independently evaluate the need for different mouth disease diagnostic, prevention and treatment methods individually for each patient; will be able to follow the scientific literature on the application of new diagnostic and therapeutic agents and the rational use of existing methods. Students acquire competence in endodontics in accordance with the General Dental Specialty Regulations. Competence to make a diagnosis of endodontic disease, make decisions and choose treatments that are consistent with existing dental care. Use acquired knowledge of trauma and inflammatory processes in the face and jaw to formulate diagnoses and differentiate from other conditions. Able to analyze examination data and evaluate patient's treatment options in general dentist's practice, performing treatment as needed. Demonstrates the principle of emergency aid, carries out temporary immobilisation, means medication therapy. Able to assess the need and refer the patient to a specialist for further treatment. Understanding of dental prosthetic treatment planning, course, basic principles. | ||||||||
