Preliminary Knowledge: | Biology, microbiology, chemistry, biochemistry, anatomy, histology, embryology, dental anatomy, preventive dentistry I. | ||||||||
Objective: | To develop skills of patient examination, caries diagnostic and detection of carious lesions, prevention and early treatment of caries using evidence-based methods and materials; provide knowledge about the correct documentation of the patient and development of individual prevention and treatment plans. | ||||||||

Unaided Work: | For every lesson, students should read or listen to materials in e-studies (methodical materials, video and scientific articles); In 7th class students must prepare a fully completed patient card with an assessment of the disease risk, a treatment plan and a letter to the patient. | ||||||||
Assessment Criteria: | 50% written exam + 40% grade of practical class test + 10% attendance of practical classes. | ||||||||

Learning Outcomes | |||||||||
Knowledge: | Will name and characterise the oral health assessment indices, corresponding codes. Will describe the methods for caries risk assessment. Will classify professionally applied fluoride products and will explain their indications in different caries risk groups. Will name occlusal and proximal dental sealant indications. | ||||||||
Skills: | Will apply oral health assessment indices. Will detect and record the stage and activity of carious lesions. Will apply professional topical fluorides according to patient's age and caries risk group. Will apply occlusal and proximal sealants. | ||||||||
Competencies: | Will be able to independently assess the need for different caries diagnostic, detection, prevention and treatment methods, taking into consideration the needs of each patient; will be able to follow the scientific literature about new diagnostic and treatment tools and rational use of existing methods. | ||||||||
