On 16 April 2025, a time capsule will be laid into the new RSU Sports Complex at 3 Cigoriņu iela.
Toms Baumanis, Vice-Rector for Administration and Development at RSU, explained in an interview in January 2022, 'At the moment, there is a basketball hall that does not fully meet international standards due to limited space behind the end line. We will keep it, but a new complex will be built next to it that adheres to FIBA2 standards. This will include a capacity of up to 500 spectators, the ability to transform the hall, a sufficient number of changing rooms, coaches' rooms, physiotherapists' rooms, doctors' rooms, and a weight room, gym, etc.
The old building and the new one will be physically combined into one complex.'
Baumanis also highlighted the location’s significance: 'The complex will be situated next to Arkādijas Park and the stadium, offering opportunities for public activities such as cross-country skiing and Nordic walking.'
This is what the future RSU sports complex on Cigoriņu iela will look like
