Preliminary Knowledge: | Basic knowledge of anatomy, physiology, chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology and dental profile in clinical practice. | ||||||||
Objective: | To provide knowledge on dental medication, focusing on its effects and side effects as well as its interaction. Emphasize information about preparations used in dental hygienists' practice and about treatment of urgent general medical complications. To teach the skill to correctly choose and use dental and oral soft tissue hygiene products. | ||||||||

Unaided Work: | The independent work includes preparation for the topic of the lesson by conducting individual research on the topic, using e-websites and specialized literature. | ||||||||
Assessment Criteria: | Active participation in practical classes, quality of oral answers. During classes students take regular tests that test their knowledge on topics acquired within the course, a test passed or a presentation prepared. | ||||||||

Learning Outcomes | |||||||||
Knowledge: | On successful completion of the course the students will have acquired basic knowledge of pharmacological groups, medication, their mechanisms of action, side effects, contraindications, characteristics of use, indications in dentistry. | ||||||||
Skills: | On successful completion of the course the students will be able to choose the most appropriate means for pharmacotherapy. Students will be able to explain the mechanism of action of certain drugs. Students will be able to evaluate the side effects of the oral cavity caused by medications. | ||||||||
Competencies: | On successful completion of the study course students will be able to briefly describe the preparations of pharmacological groups, will be able to apply the acquired knowledge in pharmacotherapy, to characterize the pharmacotherapeutic groups of medications, to demonstrate scientific approach to solving topical issues. | ||||||||
