Preliminary Knowledge: | Prior knowledge in Constitutional law. | ||||||||
Objective: | To provide understanding and basic knowledge of international public law (IPL). To teach the ability to analyse IPL issues, to identify their nature and content; to provide knowledge of the role of IPL. To provide basic knowledge of the interaction between the IPL regulatory system and international IPL documents and their application in the practice of defence and provision of rights in Latvia. To help students to acquire the skills of independent studies in order to master the topics of the said course in sufficient depth and quality; to direct students towards research and analysis of aspects of various topical issues; to have proficient knowledge of international public law enforcement mechanisms in international relations, regulation and conflict resolution. | ||||||||

Assessment | |||||||||
Unaided Work: | During the course, students are required to complete a written assignment, where he must submit answers to the questions; also to submit answers to the case study. Failure to submit written papers by the specified deadlines without a valid reason will reduce the final grade. | ||||||||
Assessment Criteria: | Attendance of lectures and seminars (25%), individual work (25%) and final exam (50%). Prerequisites for successful completion of the course include regular attendance of lectures, active participation in lectures and seminars, successful submission individual written paper, and successful completion of the final written exam. The lecturer expects students to report in advance about their absence. Students are welcome to ask the lecturer for help, advice or counselling in connection with the study material at any time. | ||||||||

Learning Outcomes | |||||||||
Knowledge: | After completing the study course, students will be able to name and identify the most important aspects of international law; to characterise and analyse the basic principles of this law in the world and in Latvia; to orientate themselves in the international relations of countries, to analyse current issues of international law. | ||||||||
Skills: | After completing the study course, students will be able to notice and analyse possible problems of international law, their causes, as well as to find solutions to prevent them; be prepared to take the necessary defence action in the event of a possible violation of international law by skilfull application of the relevant provisions of international and national law. | ||||||||
Competencies: | The knowledge gained will enable students to become involved in the work of institutions applying international law, promote their competence in international relations, and in the protection, securing, development and promotion of this law. The acquired knowledge will allow students to participate in international competitions for job offers outside Latvia. | ||||||||
