Assessment
Unaided Work:
During the study course, after acquiring basic principles of surgery, students will be able to work with patients and clinical case histories.
Assessment Criteria:
Students can pass the study course by fulfilling theses conditions: watching all lectures, attending all practical classes and showing active work in classes.
Final Examination (Full-Time):Test
Final Examination (Part-Time):Test
Learning Outcomes
Knowledge:Students will acquire basic knowledge and understanding of the organisation and prevention of infections in surgical department; the symptoms and forms of surgical bleeding and haemorrhage control methods and tools; principles of wound healing and treatment; most common postoperative surgical complications, importance of prevention and treatment of postoperative complications; surgical infectious diseases, the most important diagnostic/treatment methods of common acute surgical diseases and traumatic injuries and its possible complications. By learning and understanding these processes, the student will be able to: • identify and explain the spread of infection in surgical department or clinic; • manage surgical wounds; • identify and manage patients with surgical bleeding, to diagnose the bleeding and know agents/tools to stop it; • explain the most important parts of surgical operations, concepts of local anesthesia and postoperative period; • recommend measures of prevention of postoperative complications; • recognise simple surgical infectious deseases and "acute abdomen" and recommend a treatment plan.
Skills:On completion of the study course, the student will be able to follow infection control regime in surgical department; will be able to apply the wound dressings, will be able to use the temporary haemorrhage control methods/agents and tools; will be able to acquire anamnesis, evaluate general condition of surgical patient during pre- and postoperative period; will be able to provide first aid to patients with acute surgical diseases.
Competencies:On completion of the study course, the students will be able to understand the origin of nosocomial infections; asses and manage the wounds; to understand the most common causes of bleeding, recommend measures/agents and tools to stop the bleeding, and will be able to compensate the blood loss, perform blood transfusion; understand the most important course of surgical operation and postoperative period.
