Preliminary Knowledge: | A background in biology at the high school program level is required. | ||||||||
Objective: | To improve students' competence in providing first aid. To inform about the structure and organization of civil defense in the country, as well as duties and measures in the event of various disasters, in order to ensure adequate and timely action. Inform about the most important aspects of the environment (air, water, soil, food, etc.) and their potential impact on health and safety, as well as control, prevention and reduction (in accordance with MK regulations no. 716 "Minimum requirements for the content of the mandatory civil defense course and civil defense for training content", adopted on 15.12.2017). | ||||||||

Knowledge: | As a result of learning the study course, students will be able to: • describe the importance of the cardiovascular and respiratory systems in maintaining vital functions • describe the action plan of the first aid provider at the scene of the accident • describe basic resuscitation algorithms for adults and children • name and describe clinical signs of external and internal bleeding, methods of stopping bleeding • describe the mechanisms of shock development, anti-shock measures • name the signs of bone fractures, joint dislocations, tendon and muscle strains and first aid for victims • name the adverse effects of the harmful factors of the external environment on the human body (overheating, cooling, frostbite) • describe the organization of the Civil Defense System in the country, the duties of state institutions in the field of civil defense • describe individual actions upon hearing an alarm signal • describe the means of personal protection in case of disasters • describe evacuation measures in case of disasters. | ||||||||
Skills: | As a result of learning the study course, students will be able to: • act effectively at the scene of the accident before the arrival of the EMS team • carry out a primary examination of the victims in the pre-hospital stage • perform basic resuscitation measures for adults and children • provide first aid in case of aspiration of a foreign body • stop external bleeding with direct pressure, pressure dressing methods • carry out a complex of anti-shock measures • provide first aid in case of injuries • provide first aid in case of damage caused by temperature • give first aid in case of convulsions • demonstrate the ability to work according to the principles of teamwork, within the scope of their competence. | ||||||||
Competencies: | As a result of learning the study course, the student will be able to effectively provide first aid to the victim in various situations critical to life and health, using the available resources in an optimal way. | ||||||||
