Preliminary Knowledge:
Anatomy, histology, physiology and microbiology.
Objective:
Acquire the ability to support and promote breastfeeding in the earliest possible postpartum period and throughout the child's lactation. Provide support and assistance to a woman for possible problems and complications throughout the breastfeeding period.

Assessment
Unaided Work:
Development of practical skills through moulages; solution and analysis of simulated situations; presentation and analysis of performed research about lactation and feeding of newborns, inpatient counseling.
Assessment Criteria:
Students' activity in classes, acquaintance with the sources of recommended and recommended literature for each class, successful preparation and submission of independent work in accordance with the e-studies and presentation will be evaluated. The exam has two parts: theoretical questions and situation tasks.

Learning Outcomes
Knowledge:Upon successful completion of the study course students will be able to describe the peculiarities of neonatal period and physiology of breastfeeding, outline the composition of breast milk, name the benefits of breastfeeding, describe the technique and management of breastfeeding.
Skills:Upon successful completion of the study course students will be able to assess the lactation process and newborn’s readiness to breastfeed, assess the proper breastfeeding technique, position, identify possible risks of successful breastfeeding presented by the mother and the newborn.
Competencies:Upon successful completion of the study course students are able to plan the breastfeeding process, recommend appropriate breastfeeding techniques, positions, make adjustments to the breastfeeding technique and determine contraindications to breastfeeding.
