Assessment
Unaided Work:
Student's independent work includes preparation of clinical cases with assignments. In a clinical case, tasks include: • clinical case analysis of a certain pathology patient using a problem-oriented case history chart; • preparation of literature review according to clinical case. In order to evaluate the quality of the study course as a whole, the student must fill out the study course evaluation questionnaire on the Student Portal.
Assessment Criteria:
Exam. Cumulative assessment (80%) – the student's knowledge of the etiology, pathogenesis, clinic, diagnostics, treatment principles and prevention of neurosurgical diseases is tested. Knowledge, skills and competence are assessed on the basis of the results of the study work throughout the course. Test (20%).

Learning Outcomes
Knowledge:On completion of the course the students will be able to: • describe and specify the basic principles of diagnostics for pathologies, which can be neurosurgically corrected; • define common types of head trauma; • classify head traumas according to severity degrees; • evaluate the condition of the patient according to Glasgow Coma Scale, Hunt-Hess scale; • characterise common causes of subarachnoid haemorrhage; • evaluate general and specific clinical symptoms of CNS tumours; • recognise common pathologies, which can be treated neurosurgically (degenerative diseases of the spine, hydrocephaly, compression of the peripheral nerves, CNS development abnormalities).
Skills:After successful completion of the course the students will have sufficient practical skills and competence to: • recognise and interpret clinical and radiological features of neurosurgically curable conditions; • prescribe the necessary examinations to make the correct diagnosis; • explain adequately the basic principles and indications of neurosurgical manipulations.
Competencies:As a result of the course acquisition the student will be able to: • argue, rationalize and formulate a comprehensive clinical diagnosis of neurosurgery; • develop tactics for a specific neurosurgical clinical situation; • formulate indications for conservative and operative treatment.
