Study course description
Preliminary Knowledge:
Preliminary theoretical knowledge in anatomy and physiology of the nervous system.
Objective:
To facilitate the acquisition of knowledge about the pathogenesis of the main diseases of the nervous system, clinical manifestations thereof, the basic principles of treatment and the objectives of rehabilitation in the care.

5Functional anatomy of the sensory system. Symptoms of sensory system impairment, neurological examination thereof. Peripheral sensory disturbances and pain. Assessment
Unaided Work:
1. To assess and interpret the patient’s neurological condition. 2. To prepare theoretically for practical classes. 3. To work independently with literature on neurology. In order to evaluate the quality of the study course as a whole, the student must fill out the study course evaluation questionnaire on the Student Portal.
Assessment Criteria:
• Active participation in classes, participation in discussions, quality of oral answers; • Quality of tests, test works during the cycle on covered topics; • Ability to perform a neurological examination, to interpret symptoms; Examination method: Oral and written examination in the 2th year of studies – student knowledge is tested on topical diagnosis in neurology, the aetiology of neurological diseases, pathogenesis, clinic, basic treatment principles and rehabilitation objectives.

Learning Outcomes
Knowledge:As a result of completing the study course, the student is able to do the following: • to tell how to assess a neurological patient; • to list and describe the aetiology, pathogenesis and clinical picture of the most common neurological diseases; • to describe and justify rehabilitation objectives and explain the use of orthoses in the rehabilitation and care stages of different neurological diseases or syndromes; • to set and justify rehabilitation objectives for patients with neurological disorders.
Skills:As a result of completing the study course, the student will be able: • to perform and assess the patient’s neurological condition; • to apply the acquired knowledge in topical diagnosis to recognise and clarify the localisation of neurological lesions and the main syndromes; • to identify rehabilitation tasks; • to draw up a rehabilitation plan for patients with a neurological disease and its sequelae; • to predict the likely outcome of the disease and treatment.
Competencies:As a result of successfully completing the study course, the student is able: • to recognise the symptoms of the most common neurological diseases, differentiate between them, substantiate and logically explain the neurological diagnosis; • to develop rehabilitation objectives and basic tasks appropriate for the specific neurological clinical situation.
