Study course description
Preliminary Knowledge:
Knowledge of the human normal anatomy, physiology, aseptic and antiseptic, desmurgy, propaedeutics.
Objective:
The aim of the course is to provide students with opportunities to acquire knowledge and understanding of the human musculoskeletal diseases, and congenital and acquired deformities, injuries, their pathogenesis, causes, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation principles, care for the person, family and the society and skills that will allow students to independently give first aid, to diagnose musculoskeletal injuries and illnesses, to be well aware of treatment and rehabilitation principles and to continue studies at a higher level after studies.

Assessment
Unaided Work:
Students attend theoretical lectures, practical classes and carry on independent work with literature. At the end of the course, an evaluation of the course is provided by filling in a questionnaire.
Assessment Criteria:
Possible knowledge test method in classes – test. It is not assessed, mistakes are analyzed and corrected. The final grade is 50% made up of a lesson pass and 50% exam mark. A student is admitted to the exam if all classes have been attended or processed. The exam is based on the interpretation of clinical situation task, evaluation in a 10-point system, summing up the points (correct answer – 2 points, partially correct – 1, incorrect – 0).

Learning Outcomes
Knowledge:On completion of studies in orthopaedics the student will be able to: • recognise and describe bones, types of common joint and soft tissue diseases and injuries, causes and ethiopathogenesis; • explain and justify main principles of treatment; • explain side effects; • estimate prognosis.
Skills:On completion of studies in orthopaedics the student will be able to: • collect a patient’s anamnesis; • perform examination; • establish a diagnosis; • prepare additional examination and treatment plan; • perform transport immobilization.
Competencies:On finishing studies in the course the student will be able to work independently with the injured and orthopaedic patients in physiotherapy practice, and will be able to continue their further education.
